home

unintentionally, my dream of being a "house husband" has seemingly come true. i always said that this would be okay for me; making dinner, washing clothes, and keeping a tidy house. granted, it won't last forever, but while it is now my reality, i've enjoyed many of its aspects.

occasionally, i will find myself walking around admiring the place we have come to call home. since nesting nearly 2 years ago (gasp!), we have worked hard to add things to our place to create a homey and inviting atmosphere. it helps that we are both quite particular about cleanliness and order, allowing our home to remain free of clutter and mess.

granted i would love to have a place of our own. i dream of a separate kitchen with ample room to cook, or a bedroom with an attached bathroom. a place where no one lives below or above us, where i can vacuum at 3am if i so choose. where i do not have to hear the sounds of bowling or horseback riding above me (or so it seems). i would love for my piano, currently housed at my mom's home, to reside in my home. importantly, i long for a place where i can entertain any number of guests.

still, i greatly appreciate and enjoy the place we now live. it has the amenities that are important to us at this time. i look around and am proud of the things that we have in our place, called home.

what can brown do for me?

i anxiously awaited three packages coming from UPS. one was delivered yesterday and the remaining two were on schedule for today. i quickly raced to the door yesterday when the first box came. i signed for it and was upstairs unpacking it before brown could walk away from the door.

today, i continuously peered outside the window, hoping to see that recognizable large brown truck in front of my building. finally, brown pulled up with the final two boxes from bed, bath, and beyond. i waited for the buzzer and then leaped to the front door, where the same UPS carrier was awaiting my signature.

"hey buddy!"

"er, hi."

"looks like you're gettin' married!"

"uh..." (with shock in my tone)

"we'll be seeing a lot of each other, it seems."

"er, yah."

"i'm rick!"

"adam?"

"see ya soon!"

"um, bye."

it was all strange. first, brown had it all wrong. if only rick knew that i was not receiving towels from my wedding registry, but instead, it was a complete set of bedding, including a new duvet cover and shams, for the guest bedroom. if only rick knew that i was a total homo with a knack for style and decorating.

i wonder what my friend rick will have to say when my box from target comes next week.

shotgun

i tend to have one of those personalities that is fearful of spontaneity. i like to have things planned out a bit, with some sort of thought behind my decisions. gary, in the past, has suggested booking cruises or transatlantic flights, most without much thought. and hesitantly, at first, i've agreed to a few of them.

it's not that i'm scared or worried, it's just that i like to think things through a bit before diving head first into a decision. so today, when gary says to me "i want a new car. let's go buy a new car!" i didn't think a whole lot about it. we started to price a few vehicles out and justifying reason that we may need to trade dear bonita (our 2001 civic lx) in for something shinier and new. i allowed myself to let go a bit, thinking there would be no realistic way that we would be able to go through with such a purchase.

i met gary at the honda dealership, where he had already made friends with our salesperson. she was very friendly and quite talkative on our test drive. they finally threw a few numbers at us and we quickly shook our heads no. they came back a few times before we finally agreed to put the ball in motion. i sent a text, "i think we just bought a new car."

four and a half hours later, we had emptied bonita out and said our goodbyes as we drove off in our shiny, new 2008 honda civic ex!

isn't she fancy? my sister suggested the name "shotgun" because of the quick decision to purchase her. we'll see if it sticks!

UPDATE: the car has been named "bella". since bonita meant beautiful in spanish, we decided to use the italian word for beautiful this time. (as i wrote that i just thought about how truly gay i am.)
