i believe

i got this in an email. i enjoyed it so much i thought i would post it here.

I BELIEVE...

I Believe.... That just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other. And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do love each other.

I Believe.... That we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

I Believe.... That no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I Believe.... That true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. Same goes for true love.

I Believe..... That you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.

I Believe.... That it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.

I Believe.... That you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

I Believe.... That you can keep going long after you think you can't.

I Believe.... That we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

I Believe.... That either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I Believe.... That heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

I Believe.... That money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I Believe.... That my best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time.

I Believe.... That sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down, will be the ones to help you get back up.

I Believe.... That sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

I Believe.... That maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.

I Believe.... That it isn't always enough, to be forgiven by others. Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.

I Believe.... That no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn't stop for your grief.

I Believe.... That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but, we are responsible for who we become.

I Believe.... That you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life Forever.

I Believe.... Two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

I Believe.... That your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don't even know you.

I Believe.... That even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you - you will find the strength to help.

I Believe.... That credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

I Believe.... That the people you care about most in life are taken from you too soon.

toe tapping in airport bathrooms

sure, we all know what happens in some airport bathrooms, ahem, sen. craig, but lately, i've noticed some very odd behaviors in these all-too-public restrooms.

to the person who left their KY jelly: why on god's green earth did you have and/or need KY jelly in the bathroom stall with you? i hope you weren't using it for any of its common uses. i mean, it's a PUBLIC restroom. and, if you were using it in there, why didn't you take it with you when you left rather than leaving it on the toilet paper dispenser for all future visitors to the handicap accessible stall to wonder why it was sitting there.

to the man who stood 4 feet back from the urinal: is it really necessary? is your thing really that big that you had to stand so far back to make sure your aim was just right? and, if you're standing there, beyond the dividers, the human (gay) eye may just wonder down. and, you can't blame them because YOU were the one standing there, out for all to see.

to the obviously tired man who had to use his arm to rest up against the wall: did you really need the extra support of your hand against the wall to prop you up while you did your business? you do know that it's a public restroom and god only knows what germs are lurking on that wall, right? or perhaps you were SO tired from your long flight that you need a quick rest while you relieved yourself. for some reason though, i don't think it was necessary.

to the "decorating" staff at the baltimore-washington airport: why is a small vase of one fake flower a necessary part of the decorating theme of the men's restroom? and furthermore, you find it important to place a printed card next to it stating that it is for decorative purposes and should not be taken from the men's room. yet i wonder, would someone think of taking it out of there to give to someone? perhaps meeting that loved one who's picking you up from your long flight? it strikes me as odd, the whole thing.

these aren't examples that i've collected over the months of my frequent visits to airport restrooms. i can assure you that these are all recent discoveries within the past week.

i can't make this shit up.

i just don't get it

it seems that every day on the news, you hear a report about fuel prices across the country, the price of a barrel of oil, and how more important how it affects stock prices each day. i guess i just don't understand our dependence on oil and why we don't actively seek an alternative.

as i checked CNN today, there were multiple stories related to oil.

"oil prices drop below $100 for the first time in 5 months"

"gas shortage: 10 gallon limit in indiana"

"gas jumps 20 cents ahead of ike"

it's annoying. oil drops, gas prices jump. stocks rise, stocks fail. why aren't there more stories about what we're doing to get away from big oil?!

domestic car companies are even preventing making fuel efficient vehicles for our country! and this isn't the first time that there has been an opportunity to get away from our dependence on oil. i haven't seen it yet, but i am interested in seeing this documentary, "who killed the electric car?"

wtf? why are we so behind? oh, because our politicians are behind all of this - making money on oil.

a letter

for grandma, and those that knew her:

many knew grandma was a great person, quite social and talkative. those even closer to her knew of her caring personality and great humor. my memories of grandma are countless. from the time i can remember, grandma was always there. she was supportive of everything i did. i can't think of a time that she wasn't there - from my many music contests, to piano recitals, and to high school and college graduations - grandma was always there with that big, supportive smile on her face. i knew that i could always count on my grandma, always waiting with that big hug that she was known for. yes, grandma was a hugger - no matter how long she had known you or who you were, she would greet you with a hug!

there are many memories that i have of grandma, many that others wouldn't fully understand, because they were little jokes that grandma and i had. i used to critique her hair-do's (fluff them if necessary), and each time i saw her, i would ask if she was shrinking more and more. she would always have a quick comeback for me.

but the most important thing about my grandma was her support in any decision i made. i knew that she wouldn't tell me what choice to make. she would say, "well adam, that's just a decision you'll have to make." and no matter what, i knew that she would support me, always without judgement.

i will miss seeing the smile on my grandma's face, the witty comments that came from her mouth, and that tight hug each time she'd say hello or goodbye. but i know that grandma is at peace and i will carry the many memories of her with me for the rest of my life. i love you, grandma.
