change in an instant

last week a friend of mine received some news that changed their life forever (i'm using the non-gender plural pronoun as to not share identity).  life had been going on as always for them but then received news that shook their life and would transform their entire future.  luckily they didn't hide in a corner away from everyone, but opened up and asked for support.  one of the most poignant things that they said to me was "i am now adjusting to my new normal".  this really made me think...

something could happen in each of our lives, forcing us to "adjust to our new normal".  it's an extremely positive way of looking at a major change and embracing it in the best way possible.  we all know people who have had terrible things happen in their lives yet sit back and play the victim, unwilling to move forward.

i feel like i have so much to learn from this friend and what their journey will be like from now on.  i'm sure there will be tough days, but right now they are keeping positive thoughts and ready to take the next step forward.

What to do and where to start,
Things are falling all apart,
Trying hard to move ahead,
But keep losing ground instead.

Still, I have to take a chance,

Putting fear and doubt aside,
Had no warning in advance,
Nothing left to do but try.

And I just might make it work,

I just might make it after all,
I just might rise above the hurt,
Though I've suffered quite a fall.

But I have to get a grip,

Hold onto it like a vice,
Have to face the fallen chips,
I just might make it,
I just might.

this post is not meant to be cryptic.  please take away the message that we all may face a major change in our life that will change us forever.  we have the choice to play the victim or embrace the change and "adjust to the new normal".
