most of us have now heard about us airways flight 1549 and the successful ditching that took places in new york's hudson river. all 150 passengers and 5 crew members safely evacuated the aircraft and were rescued by nearby ferries and coast guard. only minimal injuries were reported. the first officer was initially flying the plane as it took off from new york's laguardia airport, but handed over the duty to the captain after the impact and engine failure. we have now all heard of captain 'sully' and his amazing landing and heroism. without a doubt, he should definitely be commended on his emergency landing, but little has been said about the three people who actually carried out the evacuation of all 150 passengers - the flight attendants.
three charlotte-based flight attendants with 92 years of experience carried out a successful ditching evacuation of all passengers on board. using their training, the flight attendants instructed the passengers to brace for impact and after the aircraft came to a stop, immediately began to evacuate the plane, now resting in the hudson river. as with all ditchings, the rear doors of the aircraft should never be used. the flight attendant in the aft section had to stop a passenger who was attempting to open the rear door, letting water seep into the plane. after realizing she had suffered a large gash in her leg, she continued to carry out the evacuation along with the other two flight attendants who were instructing passengers to exit through the two front doors and the overwing window exits. standing on the wings and floating in the rafts, all passengers were rescued with the direct assistance of the three amazing and heroic flight attendants on board.
note: 5 days had passed before i saw ONE article that sung the praises of the three flight attendants.
excellent job, ladies! you are truly heros!

I too found it irritating that there wasn;t much mention of the FAs. They deserve accolades as well. Well done to them!
i concur! the flight attendants played a huge role in everyone getting off the plane safely!
