the democrats have won control of the house and i'm quite optimistic that they will win control of the senate, but yesterday's election was a major defeat for human rights in our "free" country. on the ballot in eight states were state amendments to ban same-sex marriage (and an additional "domestic partnership" in CO). in seven of the states, the amendment passed. in arizona, the opposition is only ahead by a small margin.
what infuriates me is that thousands of voters, possibly millions, are making decisions that have absolutely NOTHING to do with them. i don't understand how, in a country that is 230 years old and built on personal freedoms, how an amendment to outwardly discriminate can be imposed upon its citizens.
to see all these voters choose to ban same-sex marriage saddens me greatly. how could people that do not even know me or my partner make decisions that affect us? how narrow-minded are our citizens? and why are hypocritical christian conservatives taking away rights entitled to american citizens?
i urge you to visit the human rights campaign and make your voice heard. tell america that you support marriage equality for ALL citizens.

Yuck. I agree wholeheartedly, Adam. However, there might still be hope for civil partnerships in those states (as I think should be allowed for EVERYONE, gay or straight) even if they don't allow marriage. It's not the same, I know, but at least a couple in a civil partnership would reap many of the benefits that married couples do,particularly with regard to taxes, next of kin, medical decisions, and property ownership.
I will visit that site and tell them what I think about their stupid ban!
banning gay marriage is a gross injustice to a large (and fabulous) part of our population. in today's world, any two people who manage to find each other, fall in love, and have a loving, committed relationship should be given a medal, not just the right to be married, regardless of whether they are gay or straight.
civil unions will hopefully lay the groundwork for more change and open mindedness on the parts of our representatives and society. hang in there pooks. :)
You tell em baby! They don't even know us. Shall we retire to England permanently??? PLEASE???
i'll take civil unions, domestic partnerships, or whatever else you want to call it. if you dont' want me to use the term 'marriage', i won't! i just want the same rights entitled to those protecting the 'sanctity of marriage'!
You are right...you are entitledto those same rights. my hope is that some day soon you will have that. Until then keep fighting the fight
I was watching the TV like a basketball game....waiting...and here I am in CO. Need I say more? I will continue to sign petitions, vote, and tell eveyone around me NOT TO JUDGE! Relationships are hard enough. I so agree with Rick! and Adam... they can call it what they want, when you and Gary marry...it's a marriage! Kisses!
Adam, I'm right there with ya! It continues to baffle me how blatant this sort of discrimination is and yet nothing seems to be done about it, it's infuriating! The fact that I can't marry my partner and bring him to the US legally, kills me! Why aren't my rights as good as the next person simply because I'm gay!?
