whilst in london....

after spending a long weekend in london, i have a few questions:

  • why do british notes start at 5 pounds?
  • why do the british eat brown sauce on everything?
  • why do the british drive on the left side of the street but inevitably walk on the right side of the sidewalks?
  • why do british boys insist on jumping on tables and showing their bare asses and penises at the pub?
  • why does the tube stop running shortly after midnight?
  • why does it take 45 minutes to find a taxi at 1am?
  • why do their christmas trees look differently than ours?
  • why do you have to take a running leap to get into the bathtub?
  • why do they call shrimp prawns?
  • why do you not have to tip at pubs?

regardless of any of these answers, i do not care. i want to move there. now.

well, i think i have some insight on 2 of your curiosities. shrimp ARE prawns... from what i understand though is that prawns are larger shrimp and there is a difference where they are caught... freshwater vs. saltwater, but i don't know which is which. (so essentially, that is not very helpful)

and you don't have to tip at pubs as much because their bartenders get paid a higher hourly wage than US bartenders... the bartending 'profession' has a bit more esteem there... they are expected to provide exemplary service, not necessarily get tipped on their level of service.

okay, i'm going back to work now. cheerio!
