perhaps a major issue for a cat owner or one contemplating adopting a cat is where to put the litter box. it's important for both the parent as well as the kitty. so, this was something that was discussed prior to our adopting a cat.
do we put it in the dining room corner behind the loveseat?
how about in the corner of the guest bathroom?
what about behind the couch?
ultimately, we settled on the guest bathroom. emerson seemed to be fine with that spot, too. unfortunately, i was very hesitant on having a litter box where my guests were to use the washroom.
we searched for various enclosures for the litter box. i didn't want a plastic dome or an area too small for him to do his business. we found one that we liked and would match our decor, but we were afraid that it might be too small for him.
while shopping at target today, we came across a wicker ottoman with a hinged lid. gary suggested that we cut a hole in the side and put the litter box inside (this was not our original idea. our crazy-cat-lady friend ann has done this with her cat's litter box). we decided to proceed with the purchase and take it home to see if we could create a solution to our litter issues.
much to our amazement, it worked and looks pretty good!
hopefully emerson will add to the success of this solution by embracing his new private potty.
update: emerson is successfully using his litter box in its new home and place! way to go, buddy!
